Tiger Swallowtail Dark Form - Web male tiger swallowtails generally have darker blacks and none of the bluish and red scales on their hind wings. This dark form closely resembles the unpalatable pipevine swallowtail, an example of batesian mimicry. Interestingly, there is a black morph, where black replaces the broad yellow expanses. Web the first form is yellow and black, while the second form, known as the dark form, is mostly black and blue. The black morphs also have the bluish and red wing scales on their hind wings. Faint remnants of the typical tiger swallowtail stripes are visible on the undersides of the front wings of the dark form (figure 6). The hind wings of the dark form are powdery blue above with a wavy black band dividing the powdery blue areas.
